W.E Hip Hop Blog

Cyphers Lounge Hip Hop Blog

Cyphers Lounge is now up and running at W.E. hq every Tuesday from 4pm through to 7pm, (that’s level 1 of number 1 Bedford Row for those of you that don’t already know). Our aim is to promote and develop young up and coming local artists. Cyphers Lounge is run by Head Case Records artists including Orakle, Seka, Hashm’jiza and DJ Juddabarz. There’s mic’s and turntables hooked up to the main speakers, so if you’re interested in showing off some verses or developing yourself for live performance come down and get on the mic.

To keep everyone updated with what’s going we’ve set up a blog on the WE website. We’ll be talking about what we’re doing currently and have reviews of local artists as well as international artists latest albums and mixtape’s. We’re going to throw in some exclusive interviews with hip hop artists from around New Zealand and keep you updated with what’s happening in the scene. If you’re a hip hop head, an MC or just have some thoughts you want to share on current music we want to hear from you.

The blog will be updated twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so make sure you watch this space… Chur!

LYFE Festival

LYFE (Linwood Youth Festival Experience) is a Linwood-focused event where youth pride, diversity and achievements are celebrated.

LYFE sets out to demonstrate what is positive in the Linwood community.

The first festival in 1998 was held because of a negative image and youth decided to do something to turn the tide.

Each year local youth, with support of the LYFE committee, spend many hours planning the festival.

Youth learn many valuable skills including publicity, sponsorship, event management, media relationships, teamwork and co-operation.

The five-hour festival always focuses on youth, families and friends with a suburban-fair atmosphere.

It also aims to develop pride and build strong positive relationships between the youth of Linwood and the community by featuring local youth achievements and providing opportunities for sharing information.

Each year support for the day comes from the Hagley-Ferrymead Community Board, the Christchurch City Council Community Recreation Advisor, local businesses and community organisations, schools, churches, cultural groups, students and volunteers.
