LYFE Festival

LYFE (Linwood Youth Festival Experience) is a Linwood-focused event where youth pride, diversity and achievements are celebrated.

LYFE sets out to demonstrate what is positive in the Linwood community.

The first festival in 1998 was held because of a negative image and youth decided to do something to turn the tide.

Each year local youth, with support of the LYFE committee, spend many hours planning the festival.

Youth learn many valuable skills including publicity, sponsorship, event management, media relationships, teamwork and co-operation.

The five-hour festival always focuses on youth, families and friends with a suburban-fair atmosphere.

It also aims to develop pride and build strong positive relationships between the youth of Linwood and the community by featuring local youth achievements and providing opportunities for sharing information.

Each year support for the day comes from the Hagley-Ferrymead Community Board, the Christchurch City Council Community Recreation Advisor, local businesses and community organisations, schools, churches, cultural groups, students and volunteers.

DubFX and Flower Fairy at World Buskers Festival 2010

So, Antz and I were in town yesterday checking out some more of the World Buskers Festival… absolutely stoked to see an event of this type happening in Christchurch… a huge THANK YOU to the events team at the CCC! An event of this size is no easy undertaking! Keep up the good work! I was especially happy to see DubFX who I’ve been waiting to see for ages… I wasn’t disappointed!
