WE-SPEAK 09
CHRISTCHURCH YOUTH REGROUP TO BE HEARD
Following on from 2007’s successful youth forum held in the wake of the Edgeware Road tragedy, WE-Speak 09 is to reconvene on 29th May during Youth Week, at the James Hay Theatre to give Christchurch youth a chance to have their say on issues and topics that affect their everyday lives and to update recommendations made at the 2007 conference.
WE-Speak is New Zealand’s largest youth forum, allowing Kiwi youth not only a voice in the community but a rare chance to be listened to as well. The brainchild of White Elephant Trust, a Christchurch youth charity, WE-Speak was originally set up in response to the local Edgeware Road tragedy, which claimed the lives of two of its members. One hundred young people contributed their views, opinions and recommendations to the community’s discussions in regard to young people. From that, a report was released which put forward 40 recommendations for action by the participants.

The Christchurch Music Trust has donated the use of the James Hay Theatre prior to ‘Chartfest’, their annual music industry expo focussed towards students.
The WE-Speak youth conference is made possible with the ongoing support of the Otautahi Youth Council, Unlimited Paenga Tawhiti and Youthline.
