WE-SPEAK 09
CHRISTCHURCH YOUTH REGROUP TO BE HEARD

Following on from 2007’s successful youth forum held in the wake of the Edgeware Road tragedy, WE-Speak 09 is to reconvene on 29th May during Youth Week, at the James Hay Theatre to give Christchurch youth a chance to have their say on issues and topics that affect their everyday lives and to update recommendations made at the 2007 conference.

WE-Speak is New Zealand’s largest youth forum, allowing Kiwi youth not only a voice in the community but a rare chance to be listened to as well.  The brainchild of White Elephant Trust, a Christchurch youth charity, WE-Speak was originally set up in response to the local Edgeware Road tragedy, which claimed the lives of two of its members.  One hundred young people contributed their views, opinions and recommendations to the community’s discussions in regard to young people.  From that, a report was released which put forward 40 recommendations for action by the participants.

Youth aged 15-25 are invited to register for the WE-Speak Youth Conference by clicking here

The Christchurch Music Trust has donated the use of the James Hay Theatre prior to ‘Chartfest’, their annual music industry expo focussed towards students.

The WE-Speak youth conference is made possible with the ongoing support of the Otautahi Youth Council, Unlimited Paenga Tawhiti and Youthline.

White Elephant is putting up four of twelve awesome WE t-shirts for you to get your hands on.  I’ll keep it short, but these are cool tee-shirts for sure:

- The four tees on offer are designed with lovely ladies in mind, and come in medium and large sizes.
- The tees are designed by the wicked talents at Morphic Creations, and they’re individually made, so every one is unique.
- The tees are Jet Black, sporting our label on the front near the waist, with a killer elephant design on the back.

Are you keen yet?

Each tee is available for $26 dollars and yes you can order more than one if you want.
To place your order, just hit me back at dean@we.org.nz with the number and size of tees you’d like!

Free 8GB iPod Touch??

As you might know, we’re about to start developing a brand new place in the inner-city where young people can chill out.

In fact if you want a place where:
- your band can practice
– you can record music
- you can learn to DJ and practice your DJ skills
- you can find all about podcasting
- you can simply chill out in the inner city with FREE internet
… then read on….

Of course, the main thing is we need everyone’s help, because building this new venue is going to take a wee bit of money. The good news is we have a number of companies coming on board already to help us – which is really great!

So here’s how YOU can help us and also go in the draw to win a brand new Apple iPod Touch 8GB - if you have parents or family members that own a business, then we want to invite them to come along to a “Business Marketing Seminar” so that they can learn how to grow their business.

All you need to do is fill in this form – that’s all!

We will send them an email letting them know more about the seminar on the 22nd May.  All the money collected from the ticket sales for this seminar is going to help us build your new venue. Pretty sweet eh?

Another way you can help out is to call our brand spanking new 0900 number – 0900 WEHELP (0900 934357) – and an instant $25 donation will be made :)

Or simply a donation via Paypal

Any help you can give us today will ensure we can build this new space quicker and better!
